The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has begun rolling out the highly anticipated nominations for the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, scheduled to take place on Friday, October 30.
This year’s line-up features a thrilling mix of daytime legends, exciting comebacks and groundbreaking fresh faces.
Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress
Most notably, performers from the brand-new daytime drama “Beyond the Gates” are making their historic debut in the Emmy categories, shaking up the traditional soap opera landscape.
The Lead Actress category is a blend of seasoned Emmy veterans and exciting new contenders.
“Beyond the Gates” has made an immediate splash with two historic first-time nominations for soap opera veterans Karla Mosley (as Dani Dupree) and Tamara Tunie (as Anita Williams Dupree).
Meanwhile, Stacy Haiduk, who plays Kristen DiMera in “Days of Our Lives”, lands her very first Lead Actress nomination after three previous nods in the Supporting category.
Heather Tom (Katie Logan in “The Bold and the Beautiful“) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers in “The Young and the Restless”) have also scored nods in the category.
Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor
On the men’s side, the competition is fierce. Every single actor nominated in the Lead Actor category is already a Daytime Emmy winner, setting the stage for an absolute clash of the titans.
Icons like Eric Braeden (Victor Newman in “The Young and the Restless”) and Steve Burton (Jason Morgan in “General Hospital”) will go head-to-head with Thorsten Kaye and Scott Clifton (Ridge Forrester and Liam Spencer in “The Bold and the Beautiful”).
Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host
In the talk show arena, the competition is just as lively.
Kelly Clarkson is looking to continue her dominant streak for hosting “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, while Sherri Shepherd earns a highly celebrated nomination for “Sherri” following the wrap of her show earlier this year.
“Somebody please tell me this is not a prank! Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Talk Show Host! Thank you, thank you to my amazing team and our viewers. Y’all did this. I’m just the loud one. Now if you need me, I’ll be floating two inches off the ground.💕🏆,” Shepherd wrote on Instagram.
They are joined in this powerhouse category by Tamron Hall of “Tamron Hall”, Jennifer Hudson of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and the formidable co-hosting panel of “The View”, which includes Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro.
The remaining technical, creative arts and genre categories, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, are being rolled out by NATAS throughout the day.
