David Harbour’s New DC Character Is Way Better Than His Original One

David Harbour’s new DC role in the animated series Creature Commandos is an improvement on his original Suicide Squad part. Harbour first joined DC with a role in director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. While the actor has skyrocketed in popularity due to his star turn as Jim Hopper in the Netflix flagship series Stranger Things, Harbour only had a small role in Suicide Squad, shooting the movie before the popular series premiered. Harbour played Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad, a National Security Advisor of the US government who had very little screen time.

While Harbour’s Tolliver did help the movie by being supportive of Amanda Waller’s idea to implement the Suicide Squad, the character ultimately appeared for a brief time and has likely been forgotten by many. Harbour joining the new DC Universe as part of Creature Commandos‘ cast allows the actor to play a more significant part in the DC Universe in comparison to the old DCEU. Interestingly, Harbour will be part of both DC and Marvel at the same time, as the actor is set to return as his Red Guardian character in Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie next year. Harbour’s new DC role is an improvement on his last.

David Harbour’s Creature Commandos Role Is Better Than His Suicide Squad Part

A role in the new DC Universe is already better than one in the old DCEU. While there have been some great castings in DC’s recent past, the DCEU was a very uneven universe overall due greatly to how poorly managed it was by DC’s past regime. Now, DC Studios has ushered in a new era with James Gunn and Peter Safran ready to chart a new universe that is closer to the comic books. There has already been a surge of interest in DC with the announcement of a new slate of projects, and Harbour’s role in Creature Commandos is a bigger deal than his Suicide Squad part.

Harbour plays Eric Frankenstein in the series, one of the show’s main characters and a clear improvement on his small Suicide Squad role. While Creature Commandos is an animation, the series had all of its episodes written by Gunn himself, which is a testament to the quality that should be expected from the series, as well as the overall importance of the new team. Gunn’s DC Universe has also been confirmed to have the same actors play their characters in animation and live-action, which would allow Harbour to have a big role at DC going forward.

Who Else Is In DC’s Creature Commandos Cast

Composite of Frank Grillo In Captain America The Winter Soldier and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag

The full main cast list for Creature Commandos has now been revealed. Besides Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, the animated series’ cast includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as both his The Suicide Squad character Weasel and newcomer G.I. Robot, and Peacemaker actor Steve Agee reprising his role of John Economos. Harbour’s bigger DC role in Creature Commandos can be seen when the show premieres on HBO Max in 2024.
