David Arquette Said He Had ‘Lots of FOMO’ Over Not Appearing in Scream VI

Star David Arquette recently revealed that he had “lots of FOMO” over not appearing in Scream VI. While chatting with Variety, the actor spoke about watching the latest installment in the popular slasher franchise after his character Dewey was killed off in 2022’s Scream film.

Arquette said, “It was hard for me to do it, but I also knew I wanted to see it. I loved it.” He added, “It was sad. I had lots of FOMO.” Arquette had previously appeared in all five of the franchise’s Scream films alongside Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, completing the core trio that continued to escape the killers who took on the Ghostface persona. However, in a shocking move, the fifth film saw Arquettte’s character finally meet his demise at the hands of Ghostface.

Not long after the release of the fifth Scream film, the star spoke to Variety about his character’s death. “I read it. I put it down. I took a deep breath. It was sad. I mean, it’s something that I’ve been a part of for so long. So I had to process that.”

David Arquette Wasn’t the Only Long-Standing Franchise Star Who Didn’t Return for the Latest Scream Movie

Arquette wasn’t the only long-standing franchise star who did not appear in the latest Scream movie. In a statement issued in June 2022, Campbell revealed that she would not be participating in Scream VI. She said, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

Still, the star later told PEOPLE that she would consider coming back to the franchise at some point, depending on future salary negotiations.

In Scream VI, Cox’s Gale states that Sidney has moved her family to a safe location as an explanation for her absence in the film.

In addition to Cox, Hayden Panettiere, who appeared in the fourth installment of Scream, also returned to the series along with Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, who made their series debut in the previous film.

Last month, while chatting with PEOPLE, Barrere revealed that it was “weird” not having Campbell on set but noted that the star choice was “very brave” and “important.”

Barrera said, “This job requires so much of us, not only physically [but] mentally and emotionally. You need to feel like it’s worth it. A part of it is: Are you getting compensated fairly for what you think you’re putting into the work? If you don’t, you’re going to be miserable, so you shouldn’t do it. I applaud her always.”
