Perhaps the most consequential decision Marvel has made in recent years was its choice to overhaul Daredevil: Born Again midway through production.
When the series was first announced in 2022, it appeared that Marvel wanted to distance Born Again from the original Netflix series. Although Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio were set to reprise their respective roles as Daredevil and Kingpin, the new series seemed poised to offer a completely different take on the characters.

Rather than embracing the dark and gritty tone of the Netflix series, Born Again was originally envisioned as a lighter legal drama.
The Overhaul
That direction changed after production was halted during the Hollywood strikes of 2023, giving Marvel an opportunity to reevaluate the series.

“The writers’ strike happened, then the actors’ strike, which gave the producers an opportunity to look at our episodes and decide that it wasn’t quite working,” Cox remembered.
Soon after, the Daredevil star received a call from Marvel. At first, Cox feared that the studio was canceling the series. Instead, Marvel decided to overhaul Born Again and take the show in a new direction.

As part of the changes, Marvel replaced showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord with Dario Scardapane. The studio also decided to connect Born Again more directly to the original Daredevil series.
The Final Result
The result of Marvel’s overhaul was a Daredevil: Born Again that leaned into what made the original series so popular.

So far, both seasons have been well received by critics and fans alike.
Now, however, it appears that Matt Murdock’s story is coming to an end.
The End
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil: Born Again will end after the upcoming Season 3.

Additionally, Marvel has opted not to renew showrunner Dario Scardapane’s contract, even though Season 3 of Born Again is still in post-production.
The cancellation of Daredevil: Born Again leaves Marvel with no live-action series on the calendar after early 2027.

Recently, the studio canceled Wonder Man just months after picking it up for a second season. VisionQuest, which will debut next month, has long been viewed as a one-season story.
Clearly, Marvel Television is entering a new chapter. What comes next remains to be seen.
