While Marvel Studios will be slowing things down in 2024, releasing only Deadpool 3, there are still a ton of MCU adventures on the horizon.
One of the more interesting films on the docket is Marvel’s Thunderbolts.
Under the watchful eye of Thunderbolt Ross, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will assemble a new squad comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell).
What About Baron Zemo?
While the new team will take inspiration from its comic book counterpart, Baron Zemo, who has long been associated with the team in the comics, has not been mentioned in connection with the new film.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Daniel Bruhl, who portrayed Zemo in Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, pointed out that he couldn’t be on the Thunderbolts set as it conflicted with his schedule.
Bruhl also explained that he doesn’t exactly understand the interconnected stories of the MCU.
“It’s always a delicate subject matter of what can you say? What can you not say?” he said. “It’s such a complex universe, as you know, that I only understand maybe 1% of it.”
Bruhl Would Return
When discussing a possible Zemo return, Bruhl remained ambiguous.
“There’s certain opportunities for you, there’s certain constellations where you might be part of more than in others,” said Brühl. “But it’s all a big if and a question mark.
Still, if the opportunity presented itself, it sounds like Bruhl would return.
“And [if] destiny brings Zemo back sometime again, I would probably not say no.”
Thunderbolts will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
