Costume Designers Guild Awards 2023 Winners List – Deadline

ElvisEverything Everywhere All at Once and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery went home with the film prizes at the 25th anniversary Costume Designers Guild Awards, which were handed out tonight at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Check out the winners list below.

Catherine Martin took home the often-Oscar-predictive Period Film award for Elvis, Shirley Kurata won for A24’s Everything Everywhere and Jenny Eagan for Netflix’s Glass Onion.

Dune, Cruella and Coming 2 America won with the film prizes at last year’s CDGA, and Disney’s Cruella — which is set in Swinging ’60s London — went on to win the Oscar. Since the CDGAs launched in 1999, the Academy Award for Costume Design has gone to a period film every year but twice, with only Mad Max: Fury Road (2016) and Black Panther (2019) bucking the trend. The Academy Award hopefuls this year are the designers behind Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Babylon, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris.

On the small-screen side, Amy Roberts won for Excellence in Period Television for Netflix’s The Crown, Jany Temime took the Sci-Fi/Fantasy prize for HBO’s House of the Dragon, and the Contemporary trophy went to Colleen Atwood & Mark Sutherland for Netflix’s Wednesday.

Carrie Cramer & Jason Rembert snagged the Variety/Reality-Competition/Live TV prize for Prime Video’s Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

The Period TV award went to Amy Roberts for Netflix’s The Crown. Colleen Atwood & Mark Sutherland took the Contemporary TV trophy for Netflix’s Wednesday, and Carrie Cramer & Jason Rembert won the Variety/Reality-Competition/Live TV prize for Prime Video’s Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

Tituss Burgess hosted the ceremony, which including special honors for Angela Bassett (Spotlight Award)Bette Midler (Distinguished Collaborator Award) and costume designers Deborah L. Scott (Career Achievement Award) and Rachael M. Stanley (Distinguished Service Award).

Terry Gordon, president of the Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892, revealed during the ceremony that the new name of the CDGA statuette is The Adrian. It’s inspired by the iconic Wizard of Oz costume designer Gilbert Adrian — a founding member of the guild and a 1999 inductee into its Hall of Fame. His hundreds of other film credits from 1923-52 include The Philadelphia Story, David Copperfield and 1940’s Pride and Prejudice.
