Chucky Season 2 has arrived in time for Halloween

What is Halloween without our favorite killer doll who is back with a vengeance. Season 2 kicked off on October 6, 2022 and is upping the ante by introducing a bunch of new characters. Showrunner and creator Don Mancini and the main cast teased on what is to come at New York Comic Con this weekend. They announced that there will be plenty of new drama, new characters, and a homage to Jennifer Tilly’s 1996 crime thriller Bound in Episode 4.

Season 2 of Chucky picks up a few months after the killer doll’s Hackensack rampage, and Jake (Zackary Arthur) is living with a new family following the gruesome death of his own. After Jake’s younger foster brother Gary literally explodes at the hands of Chucky, Jake, his now-boyfriend Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and frenemy Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) are sent not to prison, but Catholic school, which also happens to be the boarding home where the franchise’s infamous Charles Lee Ray grew up. This location is the main backdrop of Season 2, and Mancini says that he drew from his own experiences of growing up gay and Catholic.

Here is a teaser trailer on what is to come on Season 2 of Chucky below courtesy of Syfy:

WHO IS CHUCKY?

If you were a kid in the 1980’s, everyone knew Child’s Play, which was a movie which showed the concept of a killer doll and started a slasher franchise that’s just as popular today as it ever was. What many do not know however, is Chucky is based off a real doll who is said to be possessed. The real events that helped inspire the movie Child’s Play began with the real life version of Robert the Doll. While Chucky was a mass produced “Good Guy” doll, Robert the Doll was a one-of-a-kind toy first owned and named by Florida painter Robert Eugene Otto. The most popular story is that he was given the doll by a woman who served his family. She allegedly practiced voodoo and devised the doll as a way to get revenge for having been abused by the family.

Robert loved this doll so much he would call it by his own name, going by Eugene for himself, and would often refer to the doll in the first person. He would also blame strange incidents around the house like rearranged furniture or destroyed toys on his doll, claiming that “Robert did it.” Sound familiar? There were many other reports as well which insisted Robert the Doll could move around freely and express himself as if he were alive. Some suggested the doll could blink its eyes at certain moments, or even run around with evil laughter. I can already hear Chucky’s sinister laugh.

Robert Eugene Otto died in 1974, and the house was sold soon after to Myrtle Reuter. As a result, she acquired the doll as well. She claimed that the doll could move around on its own, along with a variety of other strange reports. She finally donated the doll to the Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida. Here you can visit the doll who is pictures here below and you can also find the doll that inspired another movie called “Annabelle”.
