Chris Pratt’s Taylor Sheridan-esque action thriller is proving why the pair need to work together, as it just landed on a new streaming platform. It’s surprising that Taylor Sheridan and Chris Pratt haven’t teamed up for at least one project yet. Sheridan’s action-heavy shows with a Western veneer feel perfect for the American actor, who has ventured more into the world of TV himself with hits like The Terminal List (which feels like it could be a Taylor Sheridan series). But the best example of why they need to work together came in 2012, when Pratt was part of a fantastic ensemble cast in one of the best modern military thrillers, which just dropped on streaming.
Directed by none other than Kathryn Bigelow, Zero Dark Thirty is now streaming on Netflix. The film tells a fictional version of the events leading up to the killing of Osama bin Laden. After receiving tremendous reviews and performing well at the box office back in 2012, Zero Dark Thirty has bounced between several streaming platforms over the past 14 years. Netflix is the new streaming home of Zero Dark Thirty after it was added to the platform on Aug. 1. Netflix typically operates on 12-month contracts. So, Zero Dark Thirty should remain on Netflix for some time (although this hasn’t been officially confirmed).
Jessica Chastain leads Zero Dark Thirty as Maya, a CIA analyst at the forefront of the hunt for Bin Laden following the September 11 attacks. The film details the extraordinary lengths that Maya and SEAL Team Six had to go to in order to find Bin Laden, as well as the incredibly dangerous mission to bring him in dead or alive. Written by Mark Boal, Zero Dark Thirty is a fantastic movie, but its elevated even further by its ensemble cast. Joel Edgerton, Pratt, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Jeremy Strong, Harold Perrineau, Frank Grillo, Mark Duplass, and the late great James Gandolfini all lend their acting talent to the movie.
‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Is Perfect for Taylor Sheridan Fans
If you enjoyed any of Taylor Sheridan’s hit shows, then Zero Dark Thirty is definitely up your street. Its writing style feels similar to Sheridan’s very stripped-back, exposition-free approach to dialogue. But the film feels incredibly similar to Sicario (directed by Denis Villeneuve), which Sheridan wrote the screenplay for. But Zero Dark Thirty is a fantastic movie in its own right. It holds a near-perfect 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, with an 80% user rating on RT.
Taylor Sheridan’s New Action Thriller Feels Like a ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Successor
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Zero Dark Thirty is based on a very intense true story that had heavy real-world consequences, while Sheridan’s shows are purely fictitious. But the story of a CIA operative being swallowed up by her job while leading an elite team can also be found in Sheridan’s latest hit. Season 3 of Lioness just dropped on Paramount+. If there’s any series to watch after Zero Dark Thirty, it’s this. All it needs now is a Chris Pratt cameo.
