Chris Pratt Talks About Being First To Say F**k In MCU For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 contains the first use of the word “f**k” in MCU history. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury nearly said the word in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. But Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord will plainly drop the F-bomb in the new Guardians film. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Pratt said he has been trying for years to say the unholy word in the Guardians series, and he’s happy to finally get it done.

“I think everybody has tried. With a PG-13 movie, you typically get two sh- words. Maybe you can get one F-word. Everyone is always lobbying, throwing out an improv [line] to try to get it in there. For years, I’ve tried–it’s not the first one I’ve tried to get in the movie,” Pratt said. “They edited it together. It was a funny beat. So they kept it.”

Here’s the scene where it happens in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the clip below, the swear word is bleeped out, but it won’t be in the movie.

Pratt shared a little more on how this came to be, saying Marvel boss Kevin Feige tried to talk writer-director James Gunn out of it. But Gunn fought to keep it in.

“From my understanding, the story goes that Kevin Feige talked to James Gunn and said, ‘Listen, you don’t want to be the guy who’s known for having the first F-word in your movie.’ And James was like, ‘Yes, I do! Don’t you know me? That’s exactly what I want” So they kept it in,” Pratt said.

Similar to the MCU, no one in any Star Wars movie or TV series has ever said “f**k.” This almost happened, though, as Andor actually filmed an F-bomb, but it didn’t make the final cut.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases on May 5 and wraps up the current series, though the franchise could live on with different actors in the future. Gunn, meanwhile, is now leading DC Studios.
