CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL HONORS BRUCE DAVISON WITH CAREER TRIBUTE

ON CATALINA ISLAND, FRIDAY SEPT 22 

PLUS, LIONS DENS & INDUSTRY PANELISTS ANNOUNCED FOR FEST SEPT 20-24

 

Catalina Film Festival (CFF) celebrates 13th years of cinema on Hollywood’s Island with a Career Tribute Award to Bruce Davison on Friday, September 22nd at 7pm at the Catalina Casino in Avalon. Mr. Davison is best known for his work on X-Men, 1923, Dahmer, Ozark, Six Degrees of Separation, Seinfeld and more. 

 

 

 

In addition to the Award Tribute on Friday night, the spotlight feature film presentation, Year of the Fox directed by Megan Griffiths will have members of the cast/crew present on the red carpet including Balthazar Getty (Lord of the Flies, Lost Highway), while Saturday night’s feature film, Miranda’s Victim directed by Michelle Danner, starring Abigail Breslin, Donald Sutherland, Andy Garcia, Luke Wilson, Ryan Phillipe, Taryn Manning, and Emily Van Camp, will also have cast/crew present, thanks to the Interim agreements from the SAG/AFTRA union.

The Lions include: Charles Morris Jr., VP Development & Acquisitions, Global Genesis Group;  James Costa, Founder – Bird Street Productions, Exec. Producer of the Emmy-nominated film, Delikado, Co-Producer, Welcome to Chechnya; David Josh Lawrence – Head of Acquisitions, Glass House Distribution

 

  • The Directors Chair: International Directors Panel – Saturday, Sept 23

Featuring: Yusuke Hayamizu (Japanese Director) founded ACTRS production company, received Best Directors Award in Foreign Film Category at IFF Milan,  co-founder Japanese Cinema Movement, Tokyo Cinema Union.  Ashley Avis (American Director) wrote, directed, & edited Disney’s Black Beauty, starring Oscar winner Kate Winslet. Gábor Klacsán (Hungarian Director) began his career as a cinematographer before becoming an award-winning film director. Federico Gatti (Italian Director) founded ANIMA, a production company based in Italy, currently  producing the documentary, I am not God but I am Michelangelo Antonioni and the feature movie Un polpo.

 

  • A Class Act: A Harborside Panel – Saturday, Sept 23

Actors conversation with Deirdre Friel and Apollo Dukakis. Apollo is an Award-Winning Theatre, Film & TV Actor with a 50 year career, best known for TV roles, Seinfeld, E.R., and LA Law, and appearing alongside Jeff Bridges, Lee Remick, and Arnold Schwarzenegger in feature films. Deirdre Friel – Award-winning Film & TV Actress and stars as ‘Greta’ in Apple TV’s Physical opposite Rose Byrne. Additional onscreen credits include The Sopranos, Second Act, Somewhere in Queens, New Amsterdam . 

 

  • Money Talks: Producers Panel – Sunday, Sept 24 

Producer Fanny Veliz Grande, Venezuelan-American award-winning filmmaker, actor, & director best known for the documentary My DACA Life. Producer and Actor Nelson Grande founded Avenida Productions in 2016 with Fanny Véliz. Danny O’Malley is a grammy nominated and James Beard nominated film director, best known for his work on Netflix’s Chef’s Table. Indie Producer Cybill Lui Eppich produced global hit The Silencing.

  • That’s a Wrap: Film Distribution Panel – Sunday, Sept 24 

Featuring: Kirk D’Amico, Executive Producer and Founder of Myriad Pictures. Gato Scatena holds the title of Managing Director at Scatena & Rosner Films (S&R), an independent film finance, sales & distribution company, releasing over 80 feature films since 2010 with Paramount, Lionsgate, Amazon, Hulu, Saban, Sony, A&E, and Netflix.

 

Catalina Film Festival is an annual celebration of cinema held Sept 20-24, showcasing 300+ films across the sister cities at sea: Long Beach and Avalon on Catalina Island. Starting in Long Beach, Catalina Film opens at the Scottish Rite Center on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and continues through Thursday, Sept. 21, before setting sail for Catalina Friday, Sept. 22 – Sunday, Sept. 24. 

 

Catalina Film Festival’s mainland experience opens in Long Beach with the US Feature: Not for Nothing, a film by Frank Joseph Tartaglia & Tim Dowlin, starring Mike Bash, Michael Gambino, Mark Webber, Lauren Lavera & Vic Dibitetto. CFF has the honor of hosting the ONLY Official Wes Craven Award in the world, with winners selected by the Craven family. This year’s Wes Craven Horror & Thriller Shorts block screens Thursday, alongside feature film Heightened; Documentary Feature RadioActive: The Women of Three Mile Island; and the Thursday Night Red Carpet and Psychological Thriller: Bibi, written and directed by Christopher Beatty, starring Elizabeth Paige, Judith Ann DiMinni, and Tammy Blanchard.
