Brad Pitt's Forgotten Action Thriller Is Making a Comeback on Streaming

Brad Pitt’s 2024 action thriller might not have been the hit everybody expected when it was released directly on Apple TV. But two years later, the film is making a comeback on streaming, and it’s time to accept that it’s far better than the reviews made it out to be. Usually, slapping Brad Pitt’s name on a movie makes it an instant success (unless the movie is Babylon), but that’s especially the case when it’s a suave thriller. The Ocean’s franchise gave the actor a platform to shine with a snarky performance that always hit the mark. Brad Pitt was also the best part of Troy, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith is such a fan favorite that Amazon even tried rebooting it — with no hope of it living up to the original. However, in 2024, Brad Pitt reunited with his Ocean’s 11 screen partner for a film that felt like an unofficial sequel. It wasn’t a life-changing movie, but it’s finally getting the love it deserves on streaming.

After directing the incredibly successful Spider-Man trilogy for the MCU (Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home), Jon Watts moved away from superheroes and focused on casting two superstars in the suave and fun action thriller: Wolfs. After a very brief and disappointing box office run, Wolfs premiered on Apple TV in September 2024. The movie quickly became a streaming hit, as it was Apple TV’s most-watched film at the time. However, in the two years since, it has been all-but forgotten by Apple TV users, with the likes of F1 (also starring Brad Pitt), The Gorge, and Fountain of Youth overtaking it. But Wolfs is making an unexpected comeback. The film has propelled itself back into Apple TV’s weekly top 10 and is currently the 10th most popular movie on the platform. F1 currently holds the top spot.

‘Wolfs’ is a Spiritual Successor to ‘Ocean’s 11’

Remember Ocean’s 11? Where Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and a bunch of other tremendous actors all acted cool, pulling off a heist in Las Vegas? Imagine if Brad Pitt and George Clooney did the exact same thing, but instead of stealing gold, they got rid of dead bodies. That’s all you really need to know about Wolfs. There’s also some other bit about a New York City official accidentally creating a “mess,” and the two fixers have to clean it up before anybody notices. But, let’s be honest, we don’t care about that. We’re watching this film to see Pitt and Clooney do more Ocean’s shenanigans.

‘Wolfs’ Was a Divisive Hit on Apple TV

Wolfs might have been popular on Apple TV in terms of viewership, but it’s far from the streamer’s most acclaimed movie. The film holds a 66% Rotten Tomatoes rating. But that seemingly decent score mostly comprises 3/5 reviews. However, of the 34% of negative reviews, many of those are brutal 1/5s. The Rotten Tomatoes critics’ consensus reads:

“George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s professional star power gives Wolfs zip even when it cycles through clichés of the fixer genre, making for a pleasing and slick throwback.”
