After being in development for almost a decade, Brad Pitt and Fury director David Ayer’s long-awaited survival action thriller has finally been given a release date. And it’s coming this year. Reuniting Pitt with filmmaker David Ayer, who most recently has been enjoying his time working with Jason Statham on the likes of The Beekeeper and A Working Man, the Pitt-led Heart of the Beast follows the Academy Award winner and Hollywood icon as a former soldier who finds himself fighting his way back to civilization after an accident. Of course, he won’t be alone as he’s got his trusted pooch by his side for what promises to be a gripping new “man and dog” movie.

The brutal survival story finds Pitt and his loyal German Shepherd living off the grid, with the actor starring as a former Army Special Forces soldier who must return to civilization after his small plane crashes deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Facing all manner of bestial and elemental threats and dangers, Heart of the Beast, much like its central character, has flown suspiciously under the radar.

But now, finally, Heart of the Beast has been given a release date. Which should allow for the movie to gain more notoriety as first looks and trailers are released over the next few months, as Paramount Pictures has now confirmed that Heart of the Beast will be released in theaters on Sept. 25, 2026.

While the first footage from Heart of the Beast has yet to be given a wide release, a trailer was shown at last month’s CinemaCon. Based on reactions to the footage, Pitt gives a “haunted performance” in the survival thriller, as his former soldier struggles with PTSD and is forced to fight his way back to civilization, facing off with “bears, wolves and other beasts.” Featuring “dizzying mountain peaks” and “raging rivers,” with Pitt telling his pooch “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Which is likely to be the main theme running throughout Heart of the Beast in a powerful thriller that could earn the actor some awards love.
