A MAN has been arrested after his girlfriend plunged 100ft to her death during a clifftop proposal.
Cops found “signs of a serious argument” at the sunset spot in Turkey where Nizamettin Gursu’s girlfriend Yesim Demir, 39, fell.
Yesim plummeted 104ft and died from her injuries despite medics – who Gursu called – trying to save her for 45 minutes.
The pair were on holiday having a picnic at Polente Cape in Canakkale on July 6 when Gursu reportedly proposed to her.
Gursu told local media at the time: “We chose the cliffs to have a romantic memory after the proposal.
“We drank some alcohol. Everything happened at once. She lost her balance and fell down.”
Five months later, cops have arrested Gursu on suspicion of “deliberate homicide”.
He was arrested after Yesim’s family reportedly filed a criminal complaint – claiming the pair fought after she rejected his proposal.
They said her engagement ring was found in his pocket, instead of on her finger.
Gursu told the cops they had been happily celebrating when he went to the car to get more supplies.
He said he heard a scream and then discovered she had vanished over the cliff.
But Yesim’s family said she had been planning to break up with him – and wouldn’t have accepted the proposal.
She was terrified of heights, and wouldn’t have willingly been close enough to the edge of the cliff to fall, they added.
Police found broken glasses, a broken speaker, and signs of a violent struggle at the scene.
Gursu is being held in custody pending trial.
