Booksmart is a movie for the kids who never went to parties in high school and still turned out okay. Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) are those kids, more focused on getting into Ivy League schools than partying. They only realize they should’ve taken more time to enjoy high school and be teenagers when it’s almost too late. It’s graduation eve, and Molly wants to make up for lost time over one wild night. Dever and Feldstein believably play longtime friends and they’re great, but the supporting cast help this movie truly shine as the night unravels. The “teen” cast of this movie is something special — Noah Galvin’s karaoke scene is one of the movie’s funniest moments, Skylar Gisondo as wannabe popular kid Jared might be the movie’s MVP, Billie Lourd gets some of the movie’s best recurring bits, and the rest of the teen ensemble (including Mason Gooding, Molly Gordon, and Diana Silvers) perfectly capture the teenage desire to have a reputation for better or worse. As we head into graduation season, Booksmart is the perfect watch.
