Japan’s leading indie games expo, BitSummit, enjoyed record attendance in 2023, it’s claimed.
BitSummit Let’s Go!!, which was held in its traditional venue of Kyoto’s Kangyokan Miyakomesse earlier this month, attracted over 23,700 visitors, its organisers said on Monday – the highest the event has ever achieved.
This year’s event was BitSummit’s first fully in-person show since before the pandemic. In 2019, it attracted around 17,000 visitors.
BitSummit Let’s Go!! Featured around 100 games from more than 20 countries. As media partner for the event, VGC played and summarised a large chunk of these titles, and crowned its BitSummit Game of the Show.
Established in late 2012, BitSummit was originally formed to give Japanese independent game developers a chance to show their games to the world.
BitSummit is organised by the Japan Independent Games Aggregate (JIGA) – Q-Games Ltd, Skeleton Crew Studios, Pygmy Studio Co Ltd and BlackSheep.
BitSummit 2024 will be held over three days, July 19, 20, and 21.
