It’s undeniable that Avengers: Doomsday is one of the biggest superhero events in recent memory. From the jaw-dropping cast, to the epic storyline that sees an MCU icon take on a new villainous persona, it is hard not to predict another record-shattering run for Marvel Studios. However, as with the rest of the Multiverse Saga, Doomsday has a lot of baggage behind it. Can it overcome the discourse and reset the course for the overarching franchise? If the latest trailer is any indication, it seems like Marvel’s ambitious bet is about to pay off big time.
Marvel Studios presented Avengers: Doomsday during D23 this weekend, releasing a brand-new trailer for the upcoming superhero crossover film. The special look carries a heavy tone, as our heroes are shown preparing to confront their greatest challenge yet. Narrated by Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), the footage positions Doctor Doom as a broken man who has transformed himself into a powerful being capable of battling the Avengers and their allies. The epic preview ends with Doom resurrecting and controlling an army of Sentinels, sending them straight to his enemies. Watch it below:
Avengers: Doomsday sees Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) battle against the likes of the Avengers, the New Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and more. However, as the trailers have suggested, the film first pits its heroes against each other, possibly due to the catastrophic incursions threatening the existence of their worlds. With magical power beyond anything Earth’s mightiest heroes have faced, Doctor Doom will attempt to seize control of the multiverse, seemingly on the brink of total collapse.
The upcoming Marvel Studios film sees the Russo Brothers return to the MCU after directing one of the biggest theatrical releases of all time, Avengers: Endgame. Though they did not help oversee the creative direction of the Multiverse Saga, Doomsday is seen as both a direct follow-up to Endgame and a culmination of the last few years of Marvel releases. Through those lenses, it is not shocking that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), no longer Captain America, is still playing a major role in the Avengers sequel. This aspect has been a hot topic of debate, but Doomsday is clearly banking on the most famous MCU performers to generate excitement.
