New Avengers: Doomsday merch offered the best look yet at Doomstadt Tower, a major location for Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Marvel Studios is finally treating audiences to a true depiction of Victor von Doom, complete with his Latverian heritage and regality on Earth-828. If the MCU’s Doctor Doom is anything like the comics, Victor was born to a Romani family in Latveria, lost his parents at a young age, traveled the world to master sorcery and science, and later returned home to seize power and install himself as absolute monarch.
Marvel Studios unveiled a slew of new Avengers: Doomsday promo art that features new looks at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and the first sneak peek at Doomstadt Tower, the Phase 6 supervillain’s Latverian headquarters. The skyscraper has a tall, imposing structure with a colorful, circular mosaic window.
Funko also unveiled the first look at “Lord Doom” wearing the villain’s third costume in Bitty Pop! scale with a replica of Doomstadt Tower, confirming the official name for Victor von Doom’s Latverian residence. These figures come from Funko’s Concept Series, meaning that they are inspired by early concept art and may not appear in the final movie, although it seems Doomstadt Tower will.

Doctor Doom stands imposingly in front of Doomstadt Tower in other promo art that incorporates members of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. That will only bolster theories that Doomsday‘s final battle will take place in Latveria, with Doom making his final stand and likely claiming victory atop his tower.

Comic readers will be well aware that Doomstadt is the capital city of Latveria, the Eastern European country where Doom was born and now rules. In Marvel Comics, Doom renamed the country’s capital city of Hassenstadt to Doomstadt to honor his late mother, and he seized power and became an absolute monarch.

The green and yellow-lit mosaic across the front of the building indicates that Doomstadt Tower is the site of Doctor Doom’s throne room. One has to imagine that Doom does much of his scheming and thinking from his top-floor throne, so there’s no telling what else is going on in Doomstadt Tower.

Doomsday‘s marketing already revealed several looks at Doomstadt Tower’s sprawling, regal interior and the green and yellow light that shines through the mosaic window. The throne room is also home to a stunning mural that depicts Doom’s late family ascending to the heavens, with their deaths placed to be a major instigator in the villain’s feud with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.

Classically, Doctor Doom resides in Castle Doom, a medieval-style castle just outside the Latverian capital. It’s unclear whether Doomstadt Tower is an attempt to modernize the Eastern European monarch’s home for the MCU, or if this is only Doom’s city residence while his castle home exists elsewhere.

Many will be relieved to see that the connections between the MCU’s Doctor Doom and Iron Man won’t extend to Doomstadt Tower, as it has virtually nothing in common with Stark Tower or Avengers Tower beyond being a tall skyscraper.

In a way, Doomstadt Tower has more in common with the Baxter Building from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, both of which are located on Earth-828. As Doctor Doom and Reed Richards are reportedly “friendly” in this universe, the Baxter Building may even have inspired Doomstadt Tower, or vice versa.

How Doomstadt Tower Could Fit Into Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday will depict the collapse of the Multiverse due to Incursions, with the story expected to span Earth-616, Earth-10005, and Earth-828. It seems likely that the final Earth’s standing will be the MCU and The Fantastic Four universes, perfectly setting up Doom to make his final stand at Doomstadt Tower.
Unlike Thanos, Victor von Doom won’t have legions of Chitauri and Outriders to keep his superhero adversaries busy; he will likely utilize Doom Bots instead, alongside his Latverian Witches and, of course, his own magical might. Still, the resulting clash is bound to be magnificent, especially if part of the final fight ultimately takes place in that gorgeous light of Doom’s throne room.
Fans have been hankering to see Latveria within the MCU for many years now, so they can only hope that Doomsday explores the nation in enough detail. As Doctor Doom is expected to be the main character of Avengers 5, and audiences are just meeting him for the first time, there is a strong chance the movie will include flashbacks to his earlier life in Latveria, including how he became its leader.
Many have speculated that Avengers: Secret Wars will soft-reboot the MCU into a cohesive universe, merging Earth-616 and Earth-828 into a single world. It will be interesting to see whether that finally turns Doom and Latveria into a recurring player in the resulting world, or if he and his nation are a one-and-done.
