An Aussie couple who woke up at the crack of dawn were flabbergasted when they found someone had ‘reserved’ sun loungers beside the pool at their Bali resort – and then didn’t turn up for nine hours,
Thom and Lisa found unattended beach towels that had been left on afternoon loungers before 6.30am at the Grand Barong Resort in Bali on Wednesday morning.
Leaving your towel unfurled on a day beds is seen as a sign the lounge is taken, but many resorts ban guests from reserving spaces.
The pair waited until 2pm before tossing them aside and taking the seats for themselves, only for the people who had put them there to show up at 3.30pm.
Their reaction was ‘priceless’, and Thom shared the ‘petty’ revenge’ online with droves of followers agreeing that leaving towels on seats all day was ‘sun hogging’ and disrespectful.

‘We woke up this morning [and] noticed towels already placed on the afternoon shade sunbeds,’ Thom wrote.
‘We went about our day and eventually arrived at the pool at 1pm to the beds untouched, nobody in sight. At 2pm we told pool staff we were moving the towels as nobody had been on them.
‘We then waited until 3:30pm for them to eventually arrive and the realisation that their spots are gone, iPads and books in hand was priceless.’
When the culprits arrived to claim their seats, Thom and Lisa made sure to not give them up.
‘We literally left and asked others to take them just to keep the pettiness going,’ Lisa said.
The small victory garnered a big celebration online from others who had shared similar experiences.
‘Am I the only one hoping there’s a day two to this situation,’ one person said.
Another wrote: ‘Proof that not all heroes wear a cape,’ another added. ‘Would shout you both a Bintang if I were there.’
‘I would’ve done the same except I wouldn’t have waited – if they weren’t there using them its free for all,’ a third added.
Thom posted an update of the empty poolside chairs on Thursday as a sign of victory.
‘Free all morning,’ Thom wrote the following day.
Some in the comments commended the couple for not immediately ditching the towels, saying that some time needed to be afforded for owners who might’ve been swimming.
