Hip-hop entered its 50th year and so did many of the legends long associated with it. Among the frontrunners, Kanye West is bound to be one for his undeniable grip and influence over the genre. Often finding himself in the midst of his many stirred-up controversies, there is no denying that the rapper has inspired a generation of musicians. Many notable talents have mentioned him as their inspiration. Among the many, one is Lorde, the New Zealander sensation who once mentioned the ‘Donda’ singer as her “idol”.

As West warms up his fanbase by previewing his music on random occasions, fans have dug up a time when Lorde covered a Ye classic.

Lorde, the electro-pop and dream-pop singer who shot to fame with her single, ‘Royals’, had once stated that she was influenced by Kanye West. The youngest Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy winner also has on many occasions sung covers of Ye classics. Among them, a standout performance was her covering the rapper’s ‘Love Lockdown’. Taking to the stage at the Allstate Arena in Chicago on March 27, 2018, the singer sang her rendition of West’s song from his 2008 album ‘808s & Heartbreak’.
The cover was meant as a way of her paying homage to the rapper and his hometown of Chicago. As she sang to loud cheers and hoots, the song echoed and once again brought to the fore West’s influence over the music industry. Furthermore, this was not the first time that Lorde had covered West. At her previous concerts, she had also sung acappella and fully tuned versions of Ye’s ‘Hold My Liquor’ and ‘Runaway’.
Fans of West have taken to such throwbacks and recalls as they attune to trending news in anticipation of West dropping his music anytime soon.
The next Ye album after Donda may release anytime now
After a long gap of months, fans’ ears finally felt heaven when they were subject to new Kanye West music. The rapper unexpectedly dropped off some new verses, likely from his upcoming album, as a preview at Mowalola’s fashion week in London. A few days prior, Ye had taken the courtesy of playing a tease of what was to come at a Steve Lacy concert. These recent inklings point to an imminent drop by West.

All of these recent news and drops are coming on the back of West shifting bases within the European Union. Amidst an Italian uproar over their amorous display of love in public, the couple moved to Berlin. Soon after, they were at the London fashion event, following which the last seen of West was in Madrid. While there is still no official confirmation of the next album, it probably is imminent.
