‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.’ | Decider

Whether you were a preteen in 1970 or 2020, you’ll find something to relate to in the latest film adaptation of Judy Blume’s classic novel, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, which is now available to rent and buy on digital. Director Kelly Fremon Craig taps into that irresistible childhood nostalgia, while also highlighting the very real trauma experienced by Margaret Simon, a sixth-grader in 1970 who just moved to New Jersey from New York City. Young actor Abby Ryder Fortson shines as Margaret, especially in the scenes with her on-screen mother, played by Rachel McAdams. Millennials may find it hard to believe that Regina George is now of Hollywood Mom age, but she knocks the role out of the park.
