- Dillan & Coleysia, Wes & Kayla, and Chris T. & Paige were some of the original pairs on the show, but they all ended up going their separate ways.
- Some contestants, like Shanley and Adam, appeared on spin-off series or pursued other careers after the show, but ultimately did not find lasting love.
Are You The One? season 1 aired on MTV in 2014, but where are the inaugural couples today? One of the best reality dating shows with predetermined matches aired almost a decade ago, and they’ve had nine seasons of contestants trying to get all the beams to shine. With Are You The One? season 10 on the way, it’s time to revisit the first batch of couples. What happened after they either win or lose the cash prize and walk away knowing their “perfect match?”
It’s no secret that many dating show couples don’t tend to last–shows like The Bachelor/Bachelorette and Love Island have taught viewers that. With that in mind, it’s no surprise most couples aren’t together today. However, one iconic couple has gone the distance, making this one of the best Are You The One? seasons.
Dillan & Coleysia
Dillan and Coleysia were the first couple to get a “perfect match” result from the Truth Booth during the show’s iconic season 1. They were also one of the original two correct beams from the first match-up ceremony. Dillan and Coleysia only spent one ceremony separated and were pretty much a couple for the entirety of the show.
Although the two were fan favorites, they didn’t stay together afterward. Dillan went to LA to be a fitness instructor before pursuing an acting career, and Coleysia went back to Alabama. She’s now a mom to the adorable Randall. According to her LinkedIn, Coleysia is a Program Manager at Bubo Learning Design and also runs her own business, Pink Contracting Service.
Wes & Kayla
Kayla and Wes were the other original perfect match at the first matchup ceremony. Although they tried to mix it up for a few episodes in the middle and Kayla and Ryan went into the Truth Booth, they came together in episode 9 as a confirmed match.
Wes and Kayla didn’t pursue a relationship at all after the show. In fact, Kayla shared in the reunion that she had visited Ryan previously and the two hooked up. That, however, didn’t turn into anything either. Now Wes works in Pharmaceuticals in LA, and Kayla runs a blog and recently got married to Marcus Aurelius.
Chris T. & Paige
Chris T. and Paige were the third and only other Truth Booth confirmed match. They paired up briefly in episode 2, tried other partners until episode 5, then stayed a match until the end. Their matchup was controversial, as Chris T. and Shanley had been gutted when they found out they weren’t a match.
Chris T. and Shanley continued to be into each other for the rest of the season, stalling the group’s plans. Poor Paige was paired with someone who didn’t even want to be with her. Now, Chris has two kids with a woman named Jamie. Paige is a Sales Representative at GrubHub and is married to Daniel Keats.
Shanley & Adam
As the other half of the problematic pairing, Shanley was convinced that she and Chris T. were perfect matches. When that wasn’t the case, she switched around until she and Adam formed the pre-assigned perfect match. Adam, unfortunately, was another casualty of the Shanley and Chris T. drama.
Although Shanley and Chris T. were one of the best AYTO couples, things didn’t last. Shanley and Adam appeared on the spin-off series Second Chances, but things didn’t end well. Shanley is now happily in a relationship with model Cameron Porras and has a podcast. Adam works in cyber security.
Chris “Scali” S. & Jacy
Many of the couples, whether accidentally or purposely, matched with their perfect match at a few points before the finale of this popular dating show. However, Scali and Jacy only choose each other once before the last ceremony. Scali was the resident player of the group, hooking up with Paige even after she had found her perfect match.
They weren’t able to make things work after the show, and now are living separate lives. Scali lives in NYC and developed the WOMME app that helps people find local contractors like DJs and dog walkers. Jacy is an artist and owns a studio, The Art Craving.
Ryan & Jessica
Also not necessarily a strong couple on the show, Ryan and Jessica paired up episodes 6 and 8 before the final ceremony. Ryan had mostly tried a relationship with Kayla on the show, but they left the Truth Booth in episode 8 with a “No.” Jessica had gone in twice with both Ethan and Dillan with no success.
Jessica is now happily married to Thomas Prongay, has two children, and runs a fitness account. Ryan had a brief acting career on other reality shows and even a project for Awesomeness TV. Now he’s a writer.
Brittany & Joey
Joey and Brittany were another couple who only paired up two times besides the finale. Brittany and Joey didn’t engage in any sort of romantic relationship on the show, and Brittany was mostly involved with Adam during the show before realizing they were incompatible. Joey has two kids and is the CEO and owner of The Construction Agency and the Expansion Group in Atlanta. Brittany, has a sports-themed podcast called TheBosBabes.
Dre & Simone
Dre and Ashleigh were a couple for a brief period of time on the series, but they ended their pairing when they went into the Truth Booth and discovered they weren’t a match, in the hopes of winning the prize money. Ashleigh was under the impression that they were not going to romantically pursue other people, but according to MTV, Dre ended up sleeping with his “perfect match,” Simone, after the final ceremony.
Scandalously, Dre was even technically still married, but separated, when he starred on the show and even had a child. Nowadays, he’s an actor and has two more children, though he’s no longer on social media. Simone appeared on The Challenge after the show, is the CEO of Limón Cosmetics, has pursued a career as an artist, songwriter, and dancer.
John & Ashleigh
Because Ashleigh spent most of the show interested in Dre, she and John didn’t pair up for romantic purposes. Because of that, they were the only couple to not pair up outside the finale. John went into the Truth Booth with both Jacy and Simone, but the pairs were rejected both times. Ashleigh is an actress, writer, and does voiceover work in Los Angeles. John also went into entertainment and does stand-up comedy in Tampa, Florida.
Ethan & Amber
Ethan and Amber are the single success story from the first AYTO season. When the show reached its finale and the cast won the prize money, Ethan proposed to Amber and she accepted. It was an adorable love story that fans fawned over.
Today, they’re still going strong as a couple and even have two daughters together. According to his LinkedIn, Ethan is a Senior Director for emerging markets at NetSuite. Amber is an influencer and social media marketing specialist, according to her feature interview for Luxury Lifestyle Magazine.
