AR Rahman’s Chennai concert grabbed everyone’s attention after a case was filed against the organisers for allegedly overselling tickets which lead to a chaotic situation at the venue.

Days after AR Rahman’s Chennai concert ruled headlines for the alleged mismanagement, the music maestro took to his Instagram handle on Sunday and dropped a video of the highlights from the concert. “Chennai concert highlights!” he wrote in the caption but disabled comments.

AR Rahman’s Chennai concert was held on September 10. However, it grabbed everyone’s attention after a case was filed against the organisers for allegedly overselling tickets which led to a chaotic situation at the venue – almost like a stampede. It was reported that during the chaotic situation at the concert, a number of women were groped and harassed.

“Due to chaos at the venue, many complained about the concert tickets being oversold. Following this, the Tambaram City Police took up the investigation and registered cases under IPC section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated) against Hemanth Raja, CEO of ACTC Events, and two others,” a senior police had said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Later, the CEO of the ACTC Events issued an official statement apologising for the mishandling of the event. “Our goal was to guarantee an unforgettable night of Rahman sir’s songs for his fans. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, many couldn’t access the venue. We accept full responsibility for this and are accountable,” he said.

The organisers further urged everyone not to blame the singer for what happened at the concert and added, “He is not one to blame. It’s completely our mistake. Don’t spread negativity about him. He did his job one hundred per cent and the majority were enjoyed, but we failed. We take full responsibility.” The CEO also assured that the company would offer refunds to those who had purchased tickets but were unable to attend the event, urging them to reach out with complete details.
