Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Trailer Reveals First Look at DCU Sequel

A teaser trailer for the upcoming DC sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, offers our first glimpse at Jason Momoa’s return as the underwater superhero. Released courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is one of the final installments in the DC cinematic universe before the franchise is renewed into the DCU by filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. Check out the teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom below.

Directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldric, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom finds Momoa’s Arthur Curry fighting the good fight once again when an ancient power is unleashed. Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will reunite several members of the cast from the first movie, including Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Arthur’s father, and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Arthur’s mother and the former queen of Atlantis. The DC sequel will also add the likes of Randall Park, Vincent Regan, Jani Zhao, Pose breakout star Indya Moore, and Pilou Asbæk, with Ben Affleck reprising the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Will Jason Momoa Leave Aquaman Behind in Favor of Lobo?

While we await Jason Momoa’s return as the DCU superhero Aquaman, the actor may have already moved onto another role in the franchise – the antihero Lobo. Though nothing has been confirmed as yet, there been rumors circulating for some time that Momoa will change roles for the newly recalibrated DCU. A report by THR has claimed that Momoa will walk away from playing the underwater hero following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and stepping into the big boots of Lobo instead.

“Momoa, meanwhile, could emerge as a pivotal figure into the new plans, according to several sources,” the report reads.”In one scenario, the actor would wrap up his days as underwater hero Arthur Curry with Lost City, due out Dec. 25, 2023, which would be the final movie released that was made by the previous regime. But it would not spell the end of the actor’s involvement with DC, with sources saying the actor would lead another movie or franchise. The character of Lobo, a foul-mouthed cigar-chomping intergalactic bounty hunter, has been mentioned in connection with Momoa.”

Lobo is certainly a role that Momoa would suit, and arguably suit better than Aquaman, as well as being a character that the actor loves. There are still several projects in the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU that have yet to be announced, with many thinking it will indeed be a Lobo project fronted by Momoa. Of course, this is unlikely to be revealed until after the release of the Aquaman sequel.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2023
