Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Action Figures Offer Another Look at the Film’s Hero and a Villain

Summary

  • Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is still set to be released on December 20, 2023, unlike many other movies affected by ongoing strikes.
  • New toy sets featuring Black Manta and Aquaman from the film have been revealed, giving fans a glimpse of the characters.
  • The first Aquaman film was a huge success, breaking the billion-dollar mark at the box office, and the sequel hopes to revive the struggling DC franchise.

Catch another glimpse of Jason Momoa in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom! At the time of this writing, the DC superhero is still slated to return to theaters on December 20, 2023. Luckily, Warner Bros. hasn’t delayed the film’s release as so many other movies have fallen victim to, courtesy of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Three new images on social media feature both Black Manta and Aquaman action figures from the film. And an image of Momoa can be seen in the upper-right corner. The Instagram post reads:

“Big thanks to my buddy @billz_5tone_718. First look at Spinmaster’s Aquaman vs. Black Manta pack. This set includes both Aquaman and Manta with their tridents and a Hammerhead Shark sub for Manta.”

The post continues:

“This was a preorder from last year listed on Amazon. It was available for like 10 mins and the link was taken down. @billz_5tone_718_ managed to order it and scored! Sometimes we take a chance when we preorder and the description is vague. There are other 12in figures listed for the movie and available for preorder but no images yet. Once this is available I will definitely be posting it and grabbing one too. Stay tuned!”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Toy Reveals Jason Momoa

Warner Bros. Pictures

The new Aquaman vs. Black Manta toy set offers a small image of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star, Jason Momoa, on the packaging. Recently, comic book artwork also gave fans a look at both the DC superhero and his love interest, Mera (Amber Heard). And for now, these glimpses will have to do while fans wait to see the new film this Christmas.

James Wan returns to sit in the director’s chair after the massive success surrounding the first Aquaman film in 2018. The superhero adventure made a humongous splash — yes, pun intended — at the box office. Fans gave Aquaman an “A-” CinemaScore. And even with middle-of-the-road reviews from audiences (72%) and critics (66%) on Rotten Tomatoes, Aquaman did something no other DCEU film could.

Yes, Wan’s Aquaman broke the billion-dollar mark in theaters worldwide. While Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises each also accomplished the money-making feat, neither were categorized as a part of the DCEU, as Man of Steel marked the beginning of the now defunct SnyderVerse.

The DC franchise has fallen on hard times of late with only a pair of box office duds, The Flash and The Blue Beetle, to show for the summer of 2023. Hopefully, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom can help the struggling cinematic franchise to get its head back up above water. And watch January’s official announcement of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU below to find out where The Lost Kingdom fits in the scheme of things:
