Aquaman 2 Reshoots Confirmed 2 Years After Filming Started

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reshoots are confirmed to have happened two years after filming started. Jason Momoa is back as Arthur Curry for the sequel, with the actor even coming up with an Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom story treatment. The movie has the hard mission of following Aquaman‘s massive box office success, with the original solo film for Momoa’s character being the highest-grossing DCEU movie, with $1.148 billion. All eyes are on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the movie is still being worked on to be the best it can be before release.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s Orm/ Ocean Master actor Patrick Wilson revealed that the DC movie recently went through reshoots, two years after filming started. Wilson confirmed that he had just spent some time doing reshoots on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, saying, Orm is awesome. I was with him last week.” THR confirms the timeline of the Aquaman sequel’s reshoots to have been a couple of weeks ago.

Why DC Isn’t Marketing Aquaman 2 Yet

While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom premieres in a few months, little is known about the movie, which has yet to receive a first trailer or any form of marketing push. There are a few significant factors that explain why DC is taking its time to start the marketing campaign for Momoa’s second solo film. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s release date changes, with the movie having suffered multiple delays, have played a role in the lack of marketing.

After many release date changes, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now set to premiere on December 20. The film has an uphill battle ahead, with the sequel not only having to measure up to the first Aquaman movie’s excellent box office numbers, but also having to turn the tables for DC’s 2023 releases. Both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash have bombed at the box office, losing DC hundreds of millions.

The failure of DC’s recent releases at the box office, as well as Warner Bros. Discovery’s publicized financial struggles, led to DC deciding not to market Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom yet. Simply put, the studio does not have a lot of money available to spend to promote the movie at the moment, and given how The Flash bombed even with a solid marketing push months before the movie was released, a different approach to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s marketing, hitting the audience hard right before the movie’s release, might prove itself more effective.
