Anxiety Comes Out To Play As Riley’s Newest Emotion

Riley’s head is about to get a little more crowded. Disney and Pixar have just released the first trailer for Inside Out 2, and in doing so, introduced a brand new emotion to Riley’s mind. Anxiety is the newest addition to the dysfunctional family in Riley’s head.

Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, will easily make things difficult for Joy. It had taken Joy years to understand the value Sadness brought to Riley’s life. Will her adventure in Inside Out make her more curious and accepting of Anxiety’s role in Riley’s life? Or, will Joy quickly freak out at how Anxiety will bring chaos to Riley’s life?

Inside Out had been a beautiful emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish as Joy and Sadness went on a journey that forced them to better understand the other’s presence in Riley’s life while Riley struggled to figure out how to maneuver through her new experiences with only Anger, Disgust, and Fear at the wheel.

Although the trailer does not reveal much about the overall storyline that Inside Out 2 will face, much of the emotional conflict will certainly come from Anxiety and the slew of new emotions that come from Riley growing into a teenager.

But who are the other new emotions, and when will they be introduced? Anxiety makes it sound as if they are already present in Riley’s mind but have just not come out to join the rest of the group yet.

The conclusion of Inside Out introduced puberty, so there are many directions the movie’s plot could go. Inside Out 2 even promises chaos and mayhem in the aftermath of replacing the console.

As for handling the exits of Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader as Disgust and Fear, respectively, the two characters have been recast with Liza Lapira and Tony Hale.

Inside Out 2 will be released in theaters on Friday, June 14, 2024.
