Ahead of its CinemaCon presentation for exhibitors Thursday in Las Vegas, Paramount has Optimus-Primed the pump by releasing the trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest installment of the film franchise.
The pic, directed by Steven Caple Jr (Creed II), hits theaters June 9.
Set in the mid-1990s, the Autobots return to action along with a new breed of transformers known as the Maximals (think Bumblebee as a gorilla, or an eagle). Previously the Maximals have stayed hidden from humans, but they are recruited to team on a fight against Unicron, a world-eating force that has Earth in its sights.
Based on the Hasbro toy line that has spawned five previous films starting with the Michael Bay-led 2007 original, Joby Harold’s story for this one was was penned by Harold and Darnell Metayer & Josh Peters and Erich Hoeber & Jon Hoeber.
Bay returns to produce the Paramount/Skydance pic with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy, Mark Vahradian and Duncan Henderson.
Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback star in the action-loaded pic, joined by a cast that includes Luna Lauren Velez, Dean Scott Vazquez, Tobe Nwigwe, Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, Colman Domingo, Cristo Fernández and Tongayi Chirisa.
