Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira Bringing Walking Dead Spinoff to AMC+

The Walking Dead universe continues to expand with the announcement of a spinoff centered around Rick and Michonne Grimes on AMC+.

The announcement came this past Friday when actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira made a surprise appearance at The Walking Dead panel. The limited series will consist of six episodes to premiere in 2023. Scott Gimple will serve as showrunner, and Lincoln and Gurira will executive produce.

According to the logline provided by AMC+, the series will center on the epic love story between Rick and Michonne, who have both changed: “Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead…and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

The spinoff is a pivot from the originally planned Walking Dead films, which AMC announced following Lincoln’s departure from the main series in 2018.

AMC also announced a Walking Dead anthology, Tales of The Walking Dead, which will debut on AMC and AMC+ on August 14. The anthology series will feature six different hour-long episodes with established and new characters from The Walking Dead franchise.
