Amber Heard A Psychiatrist In First Post-Trial Film – Deadline

The trailer for Amber Heard’s first film since 2021 dropped today.

In the Fire sees Heard play Grace Burnham, a New York doctor who travels to a remote plantation in Colombia in the 1890s to care for a disturbed boy (Lorenzo McGovern Zaini) who seems to have inexplicable abilities and who may or may not have killed his mother. With the approval of his father (Eduardo Noriega), Burnham begins treating the child, but in doing so ignites a war of science versus religion with the local priest, who believes the boy is possessed and is the reason for all the village’s woes. Locals have no regard for a stranger, especially a woman and a woman of science, at a time when religious fervor rules and psychiatry is barely regarded as more than a magic trick.

“The film is a meditation on the almost supernatural powers of love told through a strong-willed and independent woman at the turn of the 20th century,” Heard said in a quote provided before the strike. “I feel honored to be part of this labor of love and to be the lead in Conor Allyn’s vision. I feel lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing cast. They’re as dedicated and magical as the characters they play.”

In the Fire is directed by Conor Allyn, who wrote the film with Pascal Borno – who also produces – and Silvio Muraglia. Pic is being distributed by Saban Films day-and-date October 13 in theaters, on digital and on demand.
