Amazon MGM Studios is developing a series adaptation of the Comixology Originals graphic novel “Money,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The graphic novel, which was co-created by Curt Pines and artist Luca Casalanguida, is described as a conspiracy thriller. The logline states: “Everything you’ve heard about the global elite is true: Five families have ruled the world since time immemorial and every 10 years an election is held to see which powerful family will be the next to lead. To steer the direction of the world. To execute their vision of the future. And this is the story of what happens next.”
No writer is currently attached to the project. Pires will serve as an executive producer alongside former Marvel Television exec Karim Zreik. Zreik’s past credits include the six live-action Marvel/Netflix shows as well as “Legion” and several others.
“Money #1” was first released in July. Pires’ other works include “The Indigo Children,” “Youth,” “Wyrd,” and most recently “Simulation Theory” and “Lost Falls.” “Money,” “Simulation Theory,” and “Lost Falls” were all released via Comixology. It had previously been reported in 2020 that a series adaptation of “Wyrd” was in development at FX with Matthew Rhys attached in the lead role.
This is the latest development project at Amazon MGM Studios to be announced in recent days. On Monday, it was reported that the studio had acquired the rights to the book “Glossy: Ambition, Beauty and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’ Glossier,” written by journalist and author Marisa Meltzer, with plans to adapt it as a series.
