All The Cameos In “The Mandalorian” Chapter 22 “Guns for Hire”

The Mandalorian season 3 episode 6, directed by Bryce Dallas Howard is one very eventful episode that plays out like a detective story and one plentiful of cameos from start to finish. It is well known among fans that when Bryce Dallas Howard directs an episode, we are in for something very special, after this episode she has now directed three episodes of The Mandalorian, Chapter 4: Sanctuary, Chapter 11: The Heiress, and now Chapter 22: Guns for Hire. As well as one episode of The Book of Boba Fett, Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian. She never fails to deliver incredible episodes, and this one was no exception.

In the previous episode we saw The Armorer (Emily Swallow) proclaim that Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) would bring back other exciled Mandalorians to join them, this episode, Chapter 22 titled “Guns for Hire” sees Bo-Katan, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu set out for the planet idyllic Plazir-15, where Bo-Katan’s former army, now led by Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides), have set themselves up as mercenaries. Before they can meet them, they are involuntarily diverted by the planet’s rulers, Captain Bombardier and the Duchess, who ask for their help in neutralizing several repurposed but malfunctioning Imperial and Separatist droids. After stopping a rogue droid, Bo-Katan and Din Djarin follow its trail to The Resistor, a droid bar, and convince its bartender and clientele to help them.

Here are the famous faces we saw and heard in the episode, in the order they appeared.

Christine Adams and Harry Holland

In the opening scene of the episode, we see a Quarren ship being targeted by what looks like an imperial ship, only it turns out to be piloted by a group of Mandalorian mercenaries looking to bring in the Mon Calamari Prince – voiced by Harry Holland, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland’s youngest brother, who the Quarren Captain, Captain Sheegoth – played by Black Lightning star Christine Adams had snuck onboard as the two were in love, and chosen to run away together. This was soon cut short when the Mandalorians took in the prince to fullfill their bounty.

Lizzo and Jack Black

Lucasfilm/ Disney

I think Grogu has a new friend. One of the best and well most shocking (in the best way) moments of the episode was when Mando and Bo-Katan are summoned by the The Dutchess and Captain Bombardier of Plazir-15, and the two end up being Lizzo and Jack Black. The two play a wealthy married couple who rule over the independent planet of Plazir-15 as part monarchy, part democracy. Bombardier is a former Imperial officer who participated in the New Republic’s amnesty program after the war. He fell in love with the Duchess after visiting Plazir-15. The two ask for their help in getting rid of battle droids, which had been repurposed. Grogu soon takes a liking to the Duchess and she to him. We even get to see the duchess declare Grogu a knight! With a sword and everything.

Christopher Lloyd

I would not be surprised if someone yelled “Great Scott!” when they saw the legendary Christopher Lloyd from Back to The Future in the Star Wars Universe. Lloyd plays Head of Security Commissioner Helgait, who becomes a crucial part of the investigation. When Din Djarin and Bo-Katan go check out the security footage of the malfunctioning droids, they run into Doc, I mean Helgait. That it not the last we see of him though, because 84-year-old Christopher Lloyd had a very important part to play later on in the episode.

Seth Gabel

Lastly actor and Fringe vet Seth Gabel, and husband to Bryce Dallas Howard, makes a cameo in the episode, he voices the bartender droid in the droid bar where Din Djarin and Bo-Katan sought answers about a “recertified” battle droid they had encountered. Seth is known for a number of different roles, having appeared in Netflix’s The Watcher, American Horror Story, The Da Vinci Code and most recently Big Sky season 3.

Toward the end of the episode Din Djarin and Bo-Katan find out that the droids were sabotaged through nanodroids in the bar’s maintenance fluid, which were covertly imported by Commissioner Helgait, head of the planetary Security Office. Confronted, Helgait reveals himself as a Separatist before Bo-Katan knocks him out, and he is exiled. Granted an audience with the Mandalorian privateers, Bo-Katan challenges Woves for leadership and defeats him. To help her ascendance, Djarin admits his capture by the cyborg in the mines of Mandalore and his rescue by Bo-Katan, which rightfully bestows the Darksaber back to her.

The Mandalorian season 3 episodes are now streaming on Disney Plus.
