All 3 Marvel And DC Movies & Shows Releasing On Disney+ & HBO Max In August 2026

Marvel and DC fans will have plenty to watch on Disney+ and HBO Max in August, as both new TV shows and a somewhat recent movie focused on a popular character will be dropping on those streaming services. We are in July, which is a major month for superhero franchises. After all, it marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest release.

That would be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which swings into theaters on July 31, ending the month in style. Box office projections suggest the new Spider-Man entry could become one of the biggest MCU movies of all time. Following the film’s release, anyone on a superhero high will be able to experience Spider-Man’s extended world of characters on streaming.

July also marked the digital release of the latest movie in James Gunn’s DC Universe, which was Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. As that film underperformed in theaters, this serves as the first time that many are watching the DC movie, learning all about Kara’s transformative journey across the cosmos. For those who want a different kind of Superman adventure, August’s streaming releases have got you covered.

There are four superhero releases from the biggest superhero universes coming next month. Two of those are from Marvel, with a TV show and a movie, while the other two come from DC, which has two TV shows dropping new episodes. Get ready for an exciting month on HBO Max and Disney+.

My Adventures With Superman – August 2/August 9/August 16

First up is My Adventures with Superman. The Superman animated series is set in its own shared universe, which will be continued by the announced My Adventures with Green Lantern. The show stars The Boys‘ Jack Quaid as Clark Kent, and season 3 revolves around the arrival of Darren Criss’ Superboy, Cyborg Superman, and other Superman replacements that make Clark wonder what his place in the world is.

The final three episodes of My Adventures with Superman season 3 will be released on HBO Max in August. In the show’s latest episode, Clark, Lois, and others get roped into a bizarre contest organized by Mxyzptlk. Clark will go into these final episodes dealing with the fact that he has lost his powers and wondering if he will one day become Superman again. Jonathan Kent’s surprising return with a mysterious young woman alongside him teases that more surprises are in store.

X-Men ’97 Season 2 – August 5/August 12 – Disney+

Another TV show that is already underway is Marvel’s X-Men ’97 season 2. Like My Adventures with Superman, the final episodes of the Disney+ series’ new season will also be released in August. X-Men ’97 season 2 has played with time travel through the connection between Cable and Apocalypse, one of Marvel’s biggest villains, and how the X-Men can stop him.

In X-Men ’97 season 2’s latest episode, X-Force, aka Cable’s team of mutants, found Apocalypse’s corpse. What added to the shock was that one of Gambit’s playing cards was seen in the scene, implying that not only did Apocalypse manage to resurrect Remy, but that he was also powerful enough to immediately kill Apocalypse. In August, the answers to Gambit’s return and Apocalypse’s ultimate fate should be revealed on Disney+.

Lanterns – August 16 – HBO Max

HBO’s Lanterns will be released in August, and the project is one of DC’s most important releases since James Gunn became the DCU’s creative chief. Since 2011’s ill-received Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds, most DC adaptations have not let any Green Lanterns shine. This changes now, with Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

The upcoming DC series mixes a gritty, True Detective-like murder mystery with the kind of intergalactic action that one has come to expect from a Green Lantern Corps story. HBO’s Lanterns could mark a positive shift for the DCU, as it will be the first project in the franchise since Supergirl bombed at the box office. With creators Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), Damon Lindelof (Lost), and Chris Mundy (Ozark), Lanterns sounds very exciting.

Venom: The Last Dance – August 25 – Disney+

Finally, Venom: The Last Dance will be the final Marvel or DC arrival on streaming in August, making its way to Disney+. As questions about Tom Hardy’s Venom meeting Tom Holland’s Spider-Man rise around Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s release, fans will be able to rewatch or check out for the first time what stands as the final Venom movie of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Venom: The Last Dance is the only project on the list that is not a new release. That said, there will be plenty of new episodes of TV from Marvel and DC for superhero fans to enjoy on HBO Max and Disney+ in August 2026.
