Alan Ritchson’s New Action Thriller Officially Releases “The Scene Everyone Is Talking About”

Reacher star Alan Ritchson proves why he has so quickly become one of the modern era’s most exciting action heroes, with an intense clip from his new big-screen action thriller, notably of the “scene EVERYONE is talking about,” teasing what’s been hailed as “one of the best action sequences of the year.”

Leaning even further into the no-nonsense approach of Jack Reacher, Ritchson barely says a word in Motor City, which finds the action star taking the lead in a ‘70s-set revenge thriller. Ritchson stars as a working-class romantic from Detroit who is framed by a ruthless gangster after they fall for his girlfriend. After spending years in prison, he returns with only one mission: revenge. And, based on this newly released clip, there will be blood.

Panning up to reveal Ritchson’s now familiar frame, things soon kick off when he’s suddenly tackled by an assailant eager to bring this particular mission of revenge to a swift end. Shotguns blast, fists fly, knives slash, and blood spills as Ritchson’s silent avenger fights to survive within the confines of a cramped elevator in a brutally choreographed sequence that’s sure to ramp up even further in the final film, which is in theaters now as of July 24.

Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, who’s best known for the critically acclaimed action western Old Henry, and written by Chad St. John, Motor City stars Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie, Zoë Kravitz, and Natasha McElhone alongside Ritchson. Pitched as a near-silent throwback action thriller, Motor City is propelled not only by the action on display, but also a driving soundtrack by Grammy-winning Detroit native Jack White.

Described as falling “somewhere between an opera, a music video, and an action movie,” Motor City promises to be a serious crowd-pleaser, with the action outing having now scored a solid 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman heaped praise on director Potsy Ponciroli and his ability to utilize Ritchson’s action hero prowess to perfection.

Ponciroli’s a dynamite action director. He utilizes Ritchson, who’s become Arnold Schwarzenegger without the accent, as both a scalpel and hammer while saying three lines. It’s like watching an action movie to a ’70s Spotify playlist.

Alongside Motor City, Alan Ritchson continues to cement his action hero pedigree. The actor is all set for a return as his most famous character in Reacher Season 4, will join forces with Owen Wilson in Runner, take the lead in Netflix’s long-gestating Maelstrom, star alongside action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Man With the Bag, and return for more sci-fi thrills in War Machines.
