Al Madrigal On How Lopez vs Lopez Tackles ‘Old School Notions’ | Exclusive

Lopez vs Lopez is a sitcom that connects two generations of thinking between families. Many times we have had those clashes with our parents regarding how we do things and this sitcom, explores that in a funny way. George Lopez is a good comedian/actor to base this around as many millennials grew up with the sounds of Lowrider waking them up because they had left their television on.

The George Lopez show was a way for Latinos to feel seen in the world of television like we had seen families of other cultures before. Now with Lopez vs Lopez, we can take that to see a new generation of Latinos. One that is often trying to be better in the way of sensitivity to others and ourselves and breaking those old stubborn traditional ways of thinking.

On Friday night NBC will premiere their fourteenth episode titled ‘Lopez vs Work’ which explores the work ethic of the Lopez family. LRMOnline‘s Manny Gomez spoke with actor Al Madrigal who plays Oscar in the series. His character is one of George’s long-time friends and co-workers in the dream of a successful moving company.

During our conversation, we chat about that exploration of thinking that has evolved in Latino families. How things like anxiety and appropriation have become a bigger topic with families. We also chat about the fun that they have on set and the impact that The George Lopez Show has had that this show builds upon. You can check out the full interview below!

George and Mayan, a once-estranged father and daughter, navigate dysfunction, reconnection and all the headaches and joy in between as they make up for lost time like only they can. With George back in the picture, he can always be counted on to provide Mayan with some unconventional parenting advice about her son, Chance — while saving a few lighthearted barbs for her boyfriend, Quinten, for good measure. Then there’s George’s ex-wife, Rosie, who hasn’t quite forgiven him, but they’re staying on good terms… mostly. In the end, the Lopez clan gets by with a little drama, a lot of love and a lifetime of laughter.

NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez airs Fridays at 8/7c on NBC and you can catch up on the series on Peacock.
