Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia is finally here and with it, a character we have all been dying to meet.
Things have gotten really, real this season. In a more intense way. In season 1 of Ginny & Georgia we discover that Austin’s dad, Gil Timmins is in prison for fraud and embezzlement. Austin was under the belief that his father was a wizard serving time in Azkaban and would frequently write him letters, but Georgia never sent them, it was at the end of Season 1 after discovering this that Ginny sent Austin’s unsent letters to Gil for real. At the time, this seemed to scare Georgia, who was worried that Ginny had included the return address and said she had “no idea” about the truth surrounding Gil. She had no idea about the drama she was about to unleash.
Canadian born actor Aaron Ashmore (Not to be confused with Shawn Ashmore) who guest stars as Gil Timmins, Austin’s dad in Ginny and Georgia Season 2 is no stranger to television, he is definitely a familiar face when it comes to entertainment having starred in a number of TV shows and movies over the years. His most notable roles include Jimmy Olsen in Smallville, Steven Jinks in Warehouse 13, Johnny Jaqobis in Killjoys. He has also starred in a number of Lifetime movies. Most recently he starred as Duncan Locke in the Netflix series, Locke and Key. He has played many beloved characters. He is always passionate about the roles he plays which leads to performances full of heart in them, and Gil was no exception. Back in February Aaron offered us our first look at Gil in an Instagram post.
Gil makes his first appearance in Episode 5. Up until that episode we had never actually seen Gil, but in Season 2 Episode 5 we see a flashback of him and we see him show up at Austin’s school and come face to face with his son… before the episode ends. From then on things get very interesting as Gil enters the picture.
We see through flashbacks what happened with his relationship with Georgia. Leter on we learn how and why he was arrested, it turns out Gil was framed by Georgia herself because he was physically and emotionally abusing her. After coming back into their lives he tries convince her he’s changed and make amends, but it’s a lot more complex than that. Gil goes to the point of threatening to tell Georgia’s fiancé Paul about Georgia’s past secrets unless she lets him have a relationship with Austin and gives him hush money.
Gil is a vital part of the second half of the season and Aaron Ashmore does a great job of portraying this complex character who is something of the antagonist of the story at the end of Season 2. Check out Aaron Ashmore in Ginny & Georgia Season 2, streaming on Netflix Now.
