I Used AI To Show How Disney Princesses Would Look IRL

Snow White’s eyes are looking into my soul.

Hello! My name is Hannah, and I grew up wishing I was a Disney princess. Or at least, living in the world of a Disney movie.

Why yes, I did have a Disney princess themed birthday party when I was 14. That should give you an idea of the kind of teenager I was (hint: not cool. I was very creative though!!! I repurposed my old Bat Mitzvah dress into this dress — it had ribbons for the arms, too, but they were uncomfortable, so I’d taken them off by the time this photo was snapped — and set up decorations and a special Disney scavenger hunt myself. There was no party like a Hannah Marder birthday party).

But unfortunately, my life is not animated. And rather than try to animate everything around me, I decided it might be fun to try un-animating stuff from the Disney-verse. In this case, Disney princesses!

Yes, I KNOW some of these have live-action castings. And I love those castings — this is in no way to say those were bad or these would be better! I’m just messing around with robots here.

I worked with a ~fancy AI~ (Artbreeder) to generate the portraits — if you’re curious to see what the computer and I came up with together, read on!

First up, we’ve got my fave Disney princess: Rapunzel. Here she is in Tangled.

And here is what she’d look like IRL:

Next up, we got another blonde princess: Aurora from Sleeping Beauty! Here she is in the film:

Aaaand this is how she’d look IRL!

I know she looks a bit older than 16 here, but I compromised, considering she looks, like, 30 in the movie.

Here is Moana in Moana.

This is one where I went ahead and made the character look a bit younger. She looked way too old in the movie, imo.

Here’s Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

Here they are side-by-side.

Here’s Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

And here they are side-by-side!

Here’s Tiana in The Princess and the Frog.

And finally, here’s Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
