James Gunn and Peter Safran are working on their new DC Universe, which will be a new attempt for Warner Bros. Discovery to have their own interconnected franchise. One of the heroes that many have been wanting to see on the big screen for quite some time is Oliver Queen, a.k.a. Green Arrow, who has, to this point, only been portrayed in live-action through television shows such as Smallville and Arrow.
While Green Arrow was another character that the DCEU never appeared, Hunnam continues to be a hugely favored candidate for playing the Emerald Archer on the big screen, especially in the new DC Universe. Originally shared on Reddit, a detailed fan poster features the Sons of Anarchy veteran as Green Arrow, with Guy Ritchie pitched as the director.

Why Charlie Hunnam & Guy Ritchie Are The Perfect Green Arrow Combo
The idea of Hunnam and Ritchie being brought together for a Green Arrow movie seems like a potential hit for the DC Universe. Hunnam has starred in both The Gentleman and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, with the latter being the film that sparked the interest online to see Ritchie direct a Green Arrow film. As a filmmaker, Ritchie has a compelling film technique, especially in the way he tackles action movies, including his Sherlock Holmes films, which would be perfect for someone like Green Arrow, who is one of DC’s most famous street-level heroes.
Looking at Hunnam as an actor, a lot of his body of work has proven that he has a lot of the witty and charismatic sides of Oliver while also easily being able to nail the action beats that would come with portraying Green Arrow. Obviously, Hunnam is also a spitting image of the beloved DC archer, from his blonde hair down to the goatee, which is what has inspired numerous fan art and trailers over the years. Whether it would be in his own Green Arrow film or by showing up in a DC Universe movie or TV show, casting Hunnam as Oliver after all these years would be a massive dream come true.
Hopefully, Hunnam will join Green Arrow’s adaptation history and star in Gunn’s DC Universe, especially as the new franchise aims to include characters who haven’t had their fair shot at the big screen yet. Someone like Green Arrow is also a perfect character to get a new live-action incarnation, especially as the Arrow TV show did a very gritty interpretation of the character. For now, time will tell if Green Arrow is anywhere near close to finally joining the DC Universe.
