Sylvester Stallone, the action star with a career spanning over four decades, has shared his regret regarding the action film Cobra. While the film was initially criticized, it managed to carve out a place in 1980s action cinema as a cult classic. Stallone’s journey to stardom began in 1976 with the groundbreaking Rocky. His talent extended beyond acting, as he took on the role of director for most of the Rocky franchise films.

Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival (via JoBlo.com), Stallone revealed his remorse over Cobra. He admitted that the film felt “half-baked” and could have been significantly improved. What particularly haunts him is the missed opportunity to direct the film himself, as he believes it could have turned out differently if he had taken the helm.

“Cobra to me, was half-baked, I could have done better, but I wasn’t concentrating enough. I felt as though that’s something I should have directed, and I didn’t, and I regret that. That’s one thing about making movies, aside from watching your hairline recede, you go, ‘god, why didn’t I try harder?”

At 77 years old, Stallone is well aware of the limitations that come with age, particularly when it comes to playing action-heavy characters. During a recent appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote Sly, Stallone addressed the possibility of returning as Rambo in another film. While there is some interest in Hollywood for a new Rambo sequel, Stallone humorously pointed out the impracticality of the idea at his age, asking, “What am I fighting, arthritis?”

In the upcoming Netflix documentary Sly, viewers will have the chance to take a deep dive into the life and career of Sylvester Stallone. For nearly half a century, he has remained a prominent figure in Hollywood, captivating audiences with his roles in iconic franchises. However, Sly promises to go beyond these well-known characters, offering an intimate portrait of the man behind the roles. The documentary paints a vivid picture of a Hollywood legend, exploring his journey as an Oscar-nominated actor, writer, director, and producer. It highlights that Stallone’s life is a story “made for the movies,” shedding light on the person who brought these unforgettable characters to life.

Stallone also previously made a heartfelt announcement while on the set of Expend4bles, revealing that the fourth installment of the series would mark his departure from the franchise. He expressed his bittersweet feelings about leaving a project he had been attached to for over a decade, dating back to its inception, and mentioned his readiness to pass the baton into the capable hands of Jason Statham, who has been his double act partner throughout the series.

“This will be my last day,” Stallone said while back in 2021. “I’m enjoying it, but it’s always bittersweet when something you’ve been so attached to – I guess since, well now it’s been about 12 years – and ready to pass the baton on to Jason in his capable hands.”

Despite the desire to revisit the characters, Stallone recognizes that the time for the adventures has likely come to an end, leaving fans with a legacy of action-packed films to remember.
