The success story for Guardians Vol 3. continued on streaming, where the film beat out The Super Mario Bros. Movie to become the most-watched movie on any streaming service.

Although Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues to be a fan-favorite, the film’s DIsney+ was not without minor controversy.

Disney+ Botched The ‘Guardians Vol 3.’ Preview

When Guardians 3 hit Disney+, the film was released in IMAX ratio, despite Gunn admitting that he preferred to watch the film at home in its traditional widescreen format.

On Threads, a fan recently pointed out that the preview for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.’s IMAX ratio didn’t accurately show what the film looks like in that format.

The user stated that the preview is “just a cropped version of the widescreen shot”.

Gunn agreed with the user’s assessment replying:

“Yeah the IMAX version isn’t cropped. It’s all new stuff top and bottom.”

Stephane Ceretti Chimes In

Marvel Studios VFX supervisor Stephane Ceretti also chimed in on X (formally known as Twitter) blasting Disney+ for their mistake with the thumbnails.

“The thumbnails are wrong. I don’t know what D+ is doing but they should not give the thumbnail work to a photoshop challenged graphist. Truth is you get more in IMAX top and bottom. but it’s true that James designed the movie to be an hybrid format very specifically.”

All’s Well That Ends Well

Following the public criticism of Gunn and Cerettii, Disney fixed the thumbnails.

While all’s well that ends well, it is interesting to see how seriously the creative people at Marvel sweat even the little things.
