Anthony Mackie is set to star as the titular hero in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, but it wasn’t the weight of the shield that made Mackie nervous, it was his new co-star Harrison Ford.
Brave New World will not only see Sam Wilson assume the role of Captain America, but it will see Ford take over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt.

According to Mackie, working with the legendary actor was nerve-wracking, at least in the beginning.
“The first day was so intimidating,” Mackie said. “I was so [freaking] nervous I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison fucking Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy. He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this [stuff].’ And everybody was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this.’”

Thunderbolt Ross and Captain America
While the overall plot of Captain America: Brave New World has been kept under wraps, Marvel has confirmed that Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross is the President of the United States.

“We spent a good bit of time together,” Mackie added. “Ross and Cap have always had that relationship, where they were friends and they respected each other, but they always bumped heads. That’s their relationship in the storyline.”
Ford’s Thoughts On The MCU
While Ford may be a Hollywood legend, he is also new to the MCU. When asked if he was having a good time on the film, Ford said it was fun, for work at least.
“Uh, yeah,” Ford said when asked if he was having a good time. “I mean, there are tough days and easy days and fun days and all kinds of days. It’s a tough schedule and, yeah, it’s fun. But it’s not a walk in the park. It’s not fun fun. It’s work.”
Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
