Simone Biles is continuing to share all her wedding secrets like a true girl’s girl.
On May 6, the 26-year-old Olympic gymnast married 27-year-old NFL player Jonathan Owens for a second time in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Their first “I do’s” were said during an intimate Texas courthouse ceremony in April, but the pair saved their handwritten vows, wedding rings, and Biles’s stunning sheer corset gown for their big destination wedding.
In an interview with Vogue held during her final dress fitting with designer Galia Lahav, Biles revealed she was “nervous” to choose a ballgown because she’s “so petite.” Luckily, Lahav was able to add details that made Biles feel “on top of the world.”
“I like the sheer, I like how it fits, and then the little pearl details, I love the pearls. If there’s something else I wanted at my wedding, it’s flowers and pearls,” Biles said of the dress, which also features intricate floral embellishments. To achieve the length Biles was looking for, Lahav’s team suggested a corseted bodice and high leg slit.
“I was nervous about having a ball gown because I’m so petite—but it works perfect,” Biles continued. “The leg slit was very crucial. It was to add, in my head, more length to my body. I think this is exactly how brides are supposed to feel–luxurious, beautiful, kind of on top of the world.”
In fact, Biles thought about making the slit even higher after FaceTiming with her sister. “The higher, the sexier…and the taller I look,” she said.
