Latest EGOT Recipient
At Sunday’s 65th Grammy Awards ceremony, the latest EGOT Recipient, Viola Davis, was honored with a Grammy award, which she won for her audiobook narration of her memoir, “Finding Me”. She is the 18th person and third Black woman to receive an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. She was most recently seen in The Woman King (2022) as General Nanisca, who is tasked with training the next group of warriors for the all-women unit of protectors for the Kingdom of Dahomey.
And the award goes to…
Viola Davis’ long journey to the EGOT began in 2001 when she was awarded a Tony for her role in King Hedley II on Broadway. She received the award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for the role of Tonya. She was nominated for the same award in 1996 for her role in Seven Guitars.
In 2015, she won her first Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Annalise Keating in How To Get Away With Murder, and she was the first Black woman to earn the award in this category.
For her performance in Fences as Rose Maxson, she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2017.

“Finding Me” Memoir
Davis recently wrote and narrated her own memoir, which won her the last award necessary to become an EGOT recipient.
“Oh my God! I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything,” Davis began in her acceptance speech. “And it has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!”

Reflecting on her story in her book summary, she wrote:
“As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. We are forced to reinvent them to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone running through life untethered, desperate and clawing their way through murky memories, trying to get to some form of self-love. For anyone who needs reminding that a life worth living can only be born from radical honesty and the courage to shed facades and be . . . you.
Finding Me is a deep reflection, a promise, and a love letter of sorts to self. My hope is that my story will inspire you to light up your own life with creative expression and rediscover who you were before the world put a label on you.”
The 65th Grammy Awards included several performances, and in a historical win, Beyoncé took home her 32nd Grammy Award, which now makes her the artist with the highest amount of Grammy Awards.
An Atlanta-based actress, model, writer, and screenwriter, Miranda started her career on stage in high school. She figured out that acting and writing were two passions of hers that allowed her to constructively express her emotions through character and narrative. In 2022, she packed up her cat and everything she owned to move across the US to Atlanta to further pursue opportunities in the entertainment industry. She is currently working on a novel and the screenplay adaptation for the novel, and enjoys designing graphics.
