Once a season, Apple TV+‘s gaming comedy Mythic Quest breaks away from the main story’s action to go back in time. Season one’s standalone “A Dark Quiet Death” was the blueprint, and it’s also one of the series’ most special episodes. At its core, the episode is a love story. It’s a love story between two people, a love story about passion and art. If you’re looking for something offbeat, bittersweet, and romantic as we head into Valentine’s season, consider this episode. It centers on Bean (Cristin Milioti) and Doc (Jake Johnson), two characters who are never seen again in Mythic Quest‘s three-season run. It depicts 13 years in their lives over the 35 minute runtime, from the meet cute that led to their professional relationship, to their romantic relationship developing alongside the video game they created. In addition to being a stunning episode of television, it’s a great entry point to the world of Mythic Quest, despite being the series’ fifth episode.
