James Gunn’s New DCU Series With Justice League Heroes Officially Unveiled

The DC Universe is bringing more Justice League heroes to life.

Since 2024’s Creature Commandos and 2025’s Superman, various character have made their way to the small and big screens through animation and live-action in the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.” Following the Supergirl solo film, HBO’s Lanterns, and the upcoming Clayface movie, the franchise is just getting started.

James Gunn shared on social media the first official look at the Mister Miracle animated TV show, following the reveal of Josh Hutcherson being cast as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda. Check it out below:

The upcoming TV show comes from DC Comics’ Tom King, as he is adapting the critically acclaimed run he and Mitch Gerads did, with the artist also attached as a producer on the series. King is no stranger to DC Studios, as he co-created Lanterns on HBO with Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof.

The series logline reads as follows:

No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick — and escape death itself? Something has gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth. With war raging between their home worlds of Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s cruel adoptive father Darkseid seems to have finally captured the Anti-Life Equation — the ultimate weapon that will give Darkseid total dominance over the universe.

As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves. And so begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.

Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.

According to DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, the show is potentially debuting in 2028, as he recently shared that “we haven’t actually announced a date for it. We’re very advanced on it. I mean, we’ve seen animatics of the whole season. But I think we’ve always thought of it as ‘28.” Safran also indicated that each episode will be around 30 minutes long, “Yeah. I think that’s what we ended up with.”

While Mister Miracle and Big Barda have been revealed, there are still many players left to cast for the animated adventure. One of the upcoming DCU villains who will be featured is Darkseid, who was last depicted in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, voiced by Ray Porter.

Gunn has previously confirmed that actors who got cast in primary roles through animated projects will also play their live-action counterparts in future DCU movies and TV shows. With Hutcherson and Davis attached to the roles, time will tell when audience members will get to see the stars outside the animated property as their respective characters.

Mister Miracle has yet to land an official premiere date.
