John Stewart’s DCU Return In Superman Sequel Man Of Tomorrow Teased By Aaron Pierre

EXCLUSIVE: The DC Universe is just getting started for John Stewart.

The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is finally giving multiple comic book characters their due in live-action, including one of the most popular Green Lanterns. As John has finally been introduced in James Gunn’s superhero reboot, the Emerald Knight has an exciting journey coming up.

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan for Lanterns, Aaron Pierre was asked about bringing John to the big screen in 2027 with Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, and what he could share about the HBO drama potentially leading into where the DC hero goes next. The lead star stressed that “I can’t say much, but what I can say is what a gift it was to have had six months consecutively of six day weeks and a minimum of 12 hour days to live with John and excavate his character before going into Man of Tomorrow.”

For the British actor, he felt that “I think my experience on Man of Tomorrow with the wonderful team over there would have been a lot different had I not done the HBO series first.” Had he not started with the Lanterns show, Pierre thinks he “would have gone in there and been discovering in real time, in a very quick pace, who John was, but I already knew who John was going in. Of course, there’s endless amounts of excavation to do now and always beyond this point. But I went in there with a calmness and a steady hand that I’m very grateful for.”

Lanterns season 1 is currently exploring John’s relationship with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan, with HBO’s gritty comic book series serving as an origin story for Pierre’s lead character. With a focus on 2016 and 2026, time will tell if the remaining episodes do anything to set the newest Green Lantern up for his theatrical adventure next year.

As of writing, the Man of Tomorrow movie, which is still in production, has not shared specific plot details on how John factors into the overall film. However, Pierre won’t be the only major DCU hero to be featured in David Corenswet’s upcoming continuation.
