“It made me royally angry. Overall, the movie is a completely different story. The Fowls are these stand-up people who have been cataloguing magic for centuries, and it’s a great battle to protect this magical artefact, blah blah blah, very boring.
In the book, Artemis’ whole thing is he wants to grow the wealth of his family like every patriarch before him. In the first scene, he poisons and nearly kills a fairy; he kidnaps another fairy and keeps her hostage, and he tricks an entire population out of a butt load of gold. It was AMAZING. 10/10 read.
But no, Disney couldn’t have a 12-year-old protagonist be a dick. And that’s just the story changes. There are a multitude of other changes that break the story in various ways.”
