Lopez vs. Lopez has the characters dealing with their Hispanic culture, which is an aspect that can be found in Grounded for Life. This sitcom has an Irish-American Catholic family, with the parents and children having differences over their backgrounds in humorous ways.

Also like Lopez vs. Lopez, Grounded for Life centers around a working-class family, as the main characters are parents in their 30s who married at 18, making them relatively young people with teenaged children. Grounded for Life shows the adjustment the parents have to make to act responsible while figuring out how to connect with their children.

Michael talking to Kay and Junior in My Wife And Kids

My Wife and Kids is a great show to watch with the family, offering mostly clean entertainment that centers around Michael Kyle and his wife Jay dealing with three children with different personalities. My Wife and Kids is a slice-of-life show that depicts the family’s everyday lives.

Michael’s unorthodox style of parenting serves as the platform for most of the jokes, although My Wife and Kids also has a lot of heart for the way Michael and Jay confront their children’s growing pains. Lopez vs. Lopez fans will find the interactions between Michael and his kids to be similar in this regard.

The Conners (2018–present)

Dan Conner is one of John Goodman’s funniest roles to date, which remains true for The Conners but the show also brings many dramatic elements. Lopez vs. Lopez viewers will find the struggles of the titular family relatable since they are also of the working-class variety with clashing mindsets.

The Conners has its fair share of jokes due to its status as a sitcom, but much of the plot revolves around the family struggling to make ends meet and understanding each other. Lopez vs. Lopez’s outline of parents seeking to bond with their grown-up child can be found in The Conners as well.

Two men with their teen daughter in My Two Dads

Lopez vs. Lopez has George Lopez’s character out of his element in dealing with his daughter, which is similar to My Two Dads. The sitcom centers around two men who receive custody of a 12-year-old girl, with neither knowing which one of them is the real father.

My Two Dads’ kooky premise doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have heart, as much of it revolves around the men maturing after taking care of the girl they both treat as their daughter. The overall arc of the series is about the relationship that forms between the three characters.

Suburgatory (2011–14)

Suburgatory might feel like a single-camera version of Lopez vs. Lopez to some viewers since it has an almost identical outline of a father and daughter clashing while being forced to be together. Suburgatory kicks things off with the main duo moving to the suburbs and finding it very difficult from city life.

The sitcom is primarily told through the point of view of teenager Tessa, as her emotional distance from her father George seeps away gradually when she becomes accustomed to her new surroundings. Suburgatory’s focus on the father-daughter aspect will be familiar to Lopez vs. Lopez fans.

Walton Goggins on the couch with his daughter in The Unicorn

Lopez vs. Lopez looks further than just the dynamic between the father and daughter pair, which is the case for The Unicorn as well. The TV series follows widowed single father Wade as he re-enters the dating scene to realize that he’s quite the catch due to his devotion to his daughters.

The Unicorn brings humor from Wade’s attempts to curb the interest of women he receives for being a good father, but the bond he shares with his daughters is no doubt heartwarming in its own right. Lopez vs. Lopez will get around to the titular pair’s relationship strengthening, while The Unicorn shows what it’s supposed to look like.

David Tennant with his children at the park in Single Father

While not among the most recognizable characters David Tennant has played, his turn as Dave Tiler does showcase his skills. Single Father is a drama miniseries about a widowed man who learns that his eldest daughter was fathered by someone else and tries to keep her in his life while feeling her slip away when she finds her biological father.

Single Father doesn’t have the comedy that Lopez vs. Lopez contains, but the two shows have the aspect of fathers doing their best to remain in their daughters’ lives. Single Father takes it further by following Dave’s spiral out of control when he begins to question all his relationships in addition to his deceased wife’s fidelity.

A family dances in the kitchen in The Upshaws

The Upshaws follows a working-class family who have quite a lot of issues due to being blended with the father’s ex-lover and child from another relationship. Since it’s a sitcom, the dysfunctional aspect is played for laughs, which places it along the same lines as Lopez vs. Lopez.

The Upshaws also shares Lopez vs. Lopez’s estrangement between father and child, as patriarch Bennie has a distant relationship with the eldest son Bernard that he wants to repair. The family’s various attempts to get their garage business going add to the working-class environment of The Upshaws.

Frasier (1993–2004)

Martin touching Frasier's face

Frasier might not seem similar to Lopez vs. Lopez on paper, but the former is heavily based on the titular character’s living situation with his father. The series’ first half focuses on Frasier and his father Martin repairing their relationship after years of estrangement.

It helps that there’s no shortage of likable characters in Frasier, with the protagonist’s brother also gradually becoming closer to him and Martin. Much like the clash of personalities and preferences in Lopez vs. Lopez, Frasier and Martin’s snooty attitude also goes against Martin’s laidback demeanor.
