Amazon Studios has partnered with Welle Entertainment to develop the film The Idea of You with Academy Award Winner, Ann Hathaway in mind back in June, 2021. Now joining the film will be our favorite broody solider from the film Purple Hearts Nicholas Galitzine, that has been cast alongside Hathaway. The film The Idea of You, is based off of Robinne Lee’s bestselling contemporary love story of the same name. It will start to go into production in October. The novel became an overnight sensation during the pandemic and now fans will be able to see it come to life. It is said that this novel was inspired by Harry Styles from One Direction and was a fanfiction from Wattpad. The synopis of the novel is Solène Marchand who will be played by Hathaway, is a thirty nine year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, who is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. But since her divorce, she’s more eager than ever to be close to Isabelle. The last thing Solène expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon who are playing at Coachella. But Hayes Campbell who will be played by Galitzine is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things.
This is not the first fanfiction that has been made into a film. 50 Shades of Grey from the Twilight series and the late After Series which was also a Harry Styles fanfiction. It is becoming quite common for publishing houses to start to pick up these writers from either Fanfiction.net or Wattpadd. Who can blame with the following they generate. I have read the original 50 Shades of Grey, which was then Master of the Universe and was completely hooked from the first page. E.L. James perfectly captures Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullen and now Christian who she has said inspired the story and Kristen Stewart/Bella Swan who is Anna. The After series by Anna Todd, her fanfiction had been read over 400 million times and gathered 3.5 million comments. She then got picked up by a publishing house and the rest is history. We all love to all our favorite characters come to life.
Michael Showalter will be directing the movie and has done previously The Big Sick and Oscar nominated, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye. Tony Award nominee Jennifer Westfeldt, who has done Kissing Jessica Stein is adapting the screenplay. Oscar winner Cathy Schulman who is best known from the films Crash and The Woman King will also be produce the film alongside Gabrielle Union, Hathaway via her Somewhere Pictures label, Lee, Eric Hayes, Showalter and Jordana Mollick. Westfeldt will exec produce. The Amazon Original Movie to set to premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide at release. No date has been set but be sure to look out for more news in the coming months with more cast added. This will be one film to look out for and with an all star cast no less.
