DC fans can rest assured now that the “Reevesverse” is officially safe. Thanks to the deal that Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho production company signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. and Warner Television to expand his Batman universe. This will ensure that his company will have the right to pick anything the filmmaker comes up with in the upcoming years pertaining to all his future projects. Many were beginning to get skeptical with the complete restructure of the DC Extended Universe that resulted in many upcoming projects being cancelled. Projects such as Batgirl, which was said to be completely finished and was scrapped. Also the cancelling and removal of movies and TV shows from HBO Max. Many were beginning to wonder what was exactly going on at Warner Bros, but they seem to recognize a golden goose when they see one.
This is the first major deal that has been given to the filmmaker since Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy took on the helm and were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and David Zaslav to run the Warner Bros. film division. De Luca has recently stated to Deadline “We were excited to nail down his overall deal because it’s a cornerstone of what we want to do with the filmmakers that are working at the studio. We want to create an atmosphere where all of these filmmakers can excel and do their work and stay with us once they are inside the Warner’s family. Keeping Matt and creating a home for him to do more projects in the Batman universe but also originals, was very important to us.”
Many were panicking when it was announced earlier this week, that the development on another Batman project, which was an animated series called Batman: Caped Crusader, written by Reeves, J.J. Abrams, Bruce Timm, and Ed Brubaker was cancelled. However it will be shopped around to other outlets to find a home. It caused confusion amongst comic fans as to what the future was going to be for all the future Batman projects including the Penguin series that is still in development and the anticipated The Batman 2 sequel. We can all now breathe a sigh of relief, that our favorite caped crusader who will played again by Robert Pattinson is returning along with Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Jayme Lawson, Paul Dano and Collin Farrell.
Reeves is said to working on the script now as we speak along with Mattson Tomlin who is no stranger to this universe and has worked previously with Reeves on The Batman. Reeves has stated to Deadline recently “Making this legendary studio my home is a dream,” Reeves said. “I am so excited to be working with Mike, Pam, and Channing Dungey and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.” No release date has been released as of yet for The Batman 2 but we can be sure to hear something soon in the next coming year. Next for Reeves will be the Penguin show starring Colin Farrell, which is said to begin filming early next year. An Arkham Asylum show is also in development, but no further details have been given as of yet. DC fans have plenty to be excited for the future and with Reeves at the center of it, it will be sure to be a Blockbuster hit.
