Usually they say your luck runs out, but that is not the case for Johnny Depp. It’s only wins for him from hereon out since he was awarded $10 million in damages following his months-long court battle with his ex-wife,. With just shy over a week ago where we just got our first look of him dressed as King Louis XV in Maïwenn’s film Jeanne du Barry, he will also be getting his hands back into directing. Depp hasn’t directed a movie in well over 25 years ago. His last film where he made his directorial debut was in 1997 called “The Brave,” in which he starred alongside Marlon Brando. He has also produced several movies including “Hugo,” “The Lone Ranger” and “Minimat”. The thespian will now return behind the camera for “Modigliani,” which is a biographical drama about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. Al Pacino will also be producing the film along with Barry Navidi. With the help of the European production company Infinitum Nihil, who is backing the film. The film also marks another collaboration between Pacino and Navidi, who have worked side by side together over the years in “The Merchant Of Venice” in 2004, “Wilde Salomé” in 2011 and “Salomé” in 2013.
The film itself will be based on Dennis McIntyre’s play Modigliani: A Play in Three Acts and adapting into screen will be Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. “Modigliani” takes place in 1916 Paris and tells the story of the Italian-born painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani. According to the film’s release, Modigliani, “long considered by himself a critical and commercial failure, navigates a turbulent and eventful 48 hours that will become a turning point in his life, ultimately solidifying his reputation as an artistic legend.” “The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I’m incredibly honored, and truly humbled, to bring to the screen,” Depp said recently in a statement. “It was a life of great hardship, but eventual triumph, a universally human story all viewers can identify with.”
The film is among Depp’s latest effort to jumpstart his career in the wake of his highly publicized defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. The jury found that Heard had defamed Depp in her 2018 Washington Post opinion piece, which is where she alluded to being a victim of domestic violence. However, the jury also found that Depp defamed Heard, through his attorney, while fighting back against her charges.
After several years of being a pariah in Hollywood, it seems that Depp is coming back with a vengeance tenfold and it is well deserved with all that he has overcame. We are excited and thrilled to see him to get back to the world of creating and his fans couldn’t be more delighted.
